South Northolt streets getting dirtier! 21 June, 2007

Rubbish on streetsShocking figures revealed this week show that south Northolt’s streets have actually got dirtier under the Tory administration!

In a letter to all councillors two leading Tories boasted as to how streets in central Ealing had got cleaner over the past few months. However, neglected to mention that under their leadership south Northolt’s streets had actually got worse! Figures for Northolt West End (most of Northolt south of the A40) saw 75.63% of streets cleaned to the top standard in November 2006 but by April that had plummeted to 44.56%! Greenford Broadway ward which covers the rest of south Northolt has also seen consistently low ratings with scores of 50.41% in November ‘06 dropping even further to 47.58% in April ‘07.

Cllr Mahfouz, Ealing Labour’s Environment Spokesman said, “It’s great to see that parts of central Ealing are getting cleaner, but what about Northolt? Don’t we deserve the same levels of cleanliness? Having less than half our streets cleaned to a satisfactory level whilst those in Northfields are sparkling clean shows a real neglect of Northolt by the Tories!”

Byron WayLabour Councillors at the recent Northolt Area Committee agreed funds to implement a long awaited closure of Byron Way.

Local Councillor Bassam Mahfouz said, “The residents of Byron Way have been calling for a closure for years. We had a consultation in which residents backed a full closure but we had to overcome some minor opposition from the fire services and we had to find the money. Now I’m delighted that we’ve been able to overcome these obstacles and agree the funds for this long overdue closure.” The work to close the road will take place later on this year.
